March saw Parcelforce depots moving onto the new Blackbay infrastructure hosted by CSC in the Northern Data Centre.  This was the culmination of months of preparation to move Parcelforce from the SunGard infrastructure into the new network operations centre. The move also saw Parcelforce retiring the Symbol PPT 2837 handhelds to be replenished with new Symbol MC9062 handhelds; a significant step up in handheld capability for the company.

The experience has been an excellent opportunity for both CSC and Blackbay to work together and develop a partnership whereby Blackbay can utilise the breadth and structure of one of the largest consulting companies in the world and CSC can leverage the mobility expertise of Blackbay.  The partnership has already produced results with a trial for the collections and deliveries teams within Royal Mail, also beginning in March,  to evaluate the benefits of real time data gathering within the greater Royal Mail organisation.  Needless to say, both CSC and Blackbay are looking forward to developing further opportunities within the European market.
